The healthcare industry has been shown the second eye concerning the technologies affecting the industry as compared to the other industries. However, some of the trends drawing attention in the healthcare industry are focused on consumer engagement. Working on attracting people to a system or the business, it is the technology that plays a pivotal role whether through mobility, buying information on a smart phone or running through geographical interfaces. It really comes down as to how to use newer technologies like the big data in larger operating systems and to turn that into predictive analytics.

"To manage things for the current environment while predicting for the future at a time where revenues are going down is a challenge"

The paucity in the number of standards determined under healthcare has been noteworthy. Therefore, to expect a proper understanding between the healthcare provider and the technology provider without a proper standard has been a clumsy exercise from a service point of view. From an operability perspective, enabling systems to communicate to each other has held dependence on the data, in converting it from an unstructured format to make it retrievable and readable.

Building Tech Enthusiasts

Technology today is changing at a phenomenal pace. Being in an older business model, the challenge is to manage things for the current environment while predicting for the future at a time where revenues are going down.

As a CIO, I need to drive change where there is value proposition; especially in meeting with our consumers, our physicians, and our staff with models where they can use the technology that they understand to bring out significant changes. Another challenge is to keep the younger generation interested in technology, in making them understand how innovations can do wonders in terms of the number of inventions and breakthroughs that have taken place over the past decade in the technology industry. This also helps them get exposed to careerism and makes them stay focused in determining their future career goals.

Innovation has never emerged addressing point to point solutions. It has to be a flamboyant, but determined approach letting no constraints to make an effect. The more we isolate ourselves on solving what has been asked of us, the less innovative we become. Platforms like Social media are of great help for gathering thoughts, participating in social media platforms provides a holistic and an open view of where we stand and what is ahead of us.
