Big data and advanced analytics are the two disrupting trends of today’s technology driven era. Their impact in our industry is commendable and with the continuous proliferation of user connectivity, their significance will only grow in the imminent future. The synergy of Big-data and Data analytics is enabling industries to integrate data from disparate regions to develop coherent and beneficial information. The gathered information is used to tailor products and services, improve business insights and enhance decision making capability. As other trends such as Cloud and Mobile devices are thriving, business and personal lives of individuals are becoming more connected and open. This has brought the inception of another major trend: information security. Every individual and industry today is captivated towards keeping their information safe and intact. Lockheed has been at the forefront in industry providing confidentiality, authenticity, and integrity of data to organization’s information and networks, from its reliable and trusted solutions.

Thinking beyond the Organizational Stovepipes

From my former role of Lockheed Corporation’s CIO, I have learned the significance of thinking beyond the organizational stovepipes. It empowers to implement right solutions to the challenges across the entire enterprise. From the U.S. Department of Defense to British civil agencies to major commercial organizations, Lockheed martin serves many companies across the globe. CIOs of these companies are often confronted by common challenges. Working at the enterprise level, and hence discarding the need of stovepipes, has helped us in addressing those common obstacles with the right solutions.

Driving Innovation

Driving innovation and collaboration between individuals plays fundamental keys in the respective organization’s ascent. In the environment where companies face budgetary pressure, driving innovation in their respective R&D team mitigates the developing pressure as greatest innovations arise in the sense of urgency. In addition, companies should keep a track on their investments to remain focused on the critical areas.

Investing in employees is as important as investing in projects and companies. At Lockhead, we utilize internal crowd sourcing and collaboration tools to keep our talented engineers to bring the most out of our investments. The overall importance of collaboration in any organization is huge. Leaders should learn to work with their people in any dynamic way possible. (As told to Derek James)
